Brackern[]

Surrounded around the Shuriman Continent are several clans of Brackern, including clans in the Shuriman desert.

Dormun[]

The Dormun are gigantic, slow-moving creatures protected with large chitinous plates covering their body. In the harsh conditions of Shurima they have evolved to survive the perpetual drought by utilizing an unknown sense to locate hidden reservoirs of water. Incidentally, certain nomadic tribes have built themselves a permanent home upon the backs of these beasts where they clean the creature and hunt any airborne pests who venture near.

Eka'Sul[]

Desert goats that travel in herds.

Mwatis[]

Mwatis are goatlike creatures with large plated casques on their heads. Mwati wool and plate are prised for felting and insulation.

Kmiros[]

Gigantic scarabs that roam in swarms, looking for unfortunate travelers to feed on. They seem to be common prey for Rammus Rammus.

Outerbeasts[]

Beside the Xer'Sai, other creatures from the Void, referred to as 'outerbeasts', can be found in the desert.

  • Xer'Sai: Creatures from the Void that plague the southern deserts. They are the size of big dogs on average, but can be smaller or much bigger. Rek'Sai Rek'Sai, as the queen, is by far the largest and most dangerous of her species. Xer'sai burst from their small burrows and ravage anything nearby, to the detriment of desert caravans. Once dead, the Xer'sai decompose at an abnormally rapid rate and become inedible.

Ralsiji[]

Large and aggressive minotaur-like creatures. They are humpbacked quadrupeds with long limbs and thick horns.

Shuriman Camel[]

A breed of camels native to the deserts of Shurima and are used by caravans as well as common folk as primary mode of transportation. Despite being well-suited for lengthy travels in the desert landscape, they are still prey to a many predator such as the Xer'Sai.

Sandswimmers[]

Shurima Sandswimmers

Sandswimmers

Sandswimmers are massive quadrupedal creatures that traverse the Shuriman desert in cyclical patterns. They got their name due to their preferred method of travel. Their narrow bodies and webbed feet are perfectly design for swimming under the sand. They feed on bugs and other small creatures most desert beasts ignore. Scavengers will often memorize the predictable paths these creatures take, and jump onto their backs to ride as far as they wish.

Skallashi[]

The Skallashi are large quadrupedal herbivores. These hardy beasts of burden are common across Shurima, ideally suited to the harsh desert environment. Their key body feature is their long legs. Notoriously bad-tempered, they are nevertheless treated with great reverence. Their brown hides are often painted with sacred symbols of protection, and their horns hung with totems and charms. While these creatures are mostly used for travel and carrying heavy loads, on some larger skallashi people are able to built miniature rooms for more comfortable travel. To own one is often considered a sign of considerable prosperity.

The last survivor of a long-forgotten religious order, Yorick Yorick is both blessed and cursed with power over the dead. Trapped on the Shadow Isles, his only companions are the rotting corpses and shrieking spirits that he gathers to him. Yorick's monstrous actions belie his noble purpose: to free his home from the curse of the Ruination of Helia.

Background[]

Early Life[]

Yorick grew up in a small fishing village on the edge of the Blessed Isles. He could never find acceptance among his peers, and he eventually learned that he could see the spirits of the dead. While at first he was scared of these spirits, he eventually realized that they were just lost and did not want to hurt him. They wanted to find their way to what lay beyond death, and Yorick helped guide them there. While Yorick was happy to guide them, it was a bittersweet task, as he liked talking to these spirits and helping one reach the beyond meant losing a friend.

Ruination[]

Tales of Yorick's visions spread and caught the attention of a small religious order of monks called the Brethren of the Dusk. They inducted Yorick into their ranks and gave him a vial of the Waters of Life to wear around his neck, which was common for members of the order. These Waters of Life were magical in nature and could heal someone of almost any injury or ailment. Despite being part of the order, Yorick found himself alone again, shunned by the other monks because he could easily see what they had spent their entire lives trying to understand.

One day, as he was tending to his daily duties in the cemetery, Yorick saw a dark cloud moving across the surface of the Isles and devouring everything in its path. This was the Black Mist, created when a young king young king tried to revive his dead wife dead wife in the Waters of Life. As the Mist spread, it caused the monks to pull the vials from their necks before consuming their souls and turning their bodies into corpses. Yorick used all of his willpower to not pull the vial from his neck before being consumed by the Mist.

When he awoke, Yorick had been physically changed, and the Isles had been cleansed of all life. The Black Mist reached for him, but recoiled when it tried to reach for the vial around his neck. He realized that the only thing keeping him alive was the last of the Waters of Life around his neck. Despite searching for days, Yorick found no survivors. In his grief, he talked to the spirits surrounding him. They gravitated to his word, and Yorick realized that he could control them. Determined to free the dead spirits on the Isles, Yorick decided to use these powers to end the curse upon the Isles.

Sentinels of Light[]

While on their quest to defeat Viego Viego, the Sentinels of Light visited Yorick to ask for help. Seeing that their goals aligned with his, Yorick gave them some of the drops from his vial along with the Maiden of the Mist Maiden of the Mist, which was revealed to be a fetter, containing a piece of Isolde's Isolde's's soul.

Appearance[]

Yorick is a muscular man with light blue skin and glowing eyes because of his time spent in the Shadow Isles. He wears a dark blue outfit common for those in his position in the Brethren of the Dusk, with no sleeves, fingerless gloves, black shoes, and elongated shoulder pads. Yorick carries with him a large shovel used for digging graves and as a weapon if need be. Around his neck is a glowing light blue vial, containing some of the last drops of the Waters of Life.

Personality[]

Yorick is a quiet and solemn individual. Resigned to his fate long ago, Yorick dutifully digs graves for those who die and have died on the Shadow Isles. While he often talks to the tormented souls around him because of his loneliness and grief and despite caring for the souls, he is aware that they are being controlled by the Mist. His ultimate goal is to find the Ruined King Ruined King and find a way to let everything in the Shadow Isles die, and in his mind, finally be at peace, including himself.

Abilities[]

  • Immortality: Much to his dismay, Yorick is immortal. There is no known way to permanently kill him.
  • Magical Control: Yorick can control elements of the Black Mist and the dead to his will.
    • Mist walkers Mist walkers: Yorick can summon dead souls to do his bidding.
    • Maiden of the Mist Maiden of the Mist: A personification of the Black Mist that tries to manipulate him, Yorick can summon and control the Maiden of the Mist to do his bidding.

Relations[]

Illaoi Illaoi[]

"And this is our difference, you would banish spirits before their time."
— Yorick, The Will of the Dead

Illaoi's faith would compel her to kill a man like Yorick, but her recent experiences had given her enough of an open mind to cooperate with the monk. In their philisophical debate, Yorick argues that helping the dead find peace is more important than banishing them back into the cycle of life. Furthermore, his power to compel the dead would align with the Buhru law of motion, either by commanding the Black Mist or rescuing tormented spirits.

Viego Viego[]

"A tyrant who will pay for his crimes."
— Yorick, League of Legends

Yorick dreamt of destroying the Ruined King that decimated Helia. This pursuit would drive him to sacrifice his lifelines, such as leaving his seat of power with Illaoi in the first attempt, or giving away the Maiden and his Water of Life to the Sentinels that would succeed in the second attempt. Although, he was disappointed to learn that Viego's banishment has no effect on the Black Mist, and therefore his own predicament.

Sentinels of Light[]

"I am… a simple gravedigger."
— Yorick, Rise of the Sentinels

When the Sentinels met Yorick, he became confident that their strength could stop Viego once and for all. He sacrificed his powers—the Maiden and the Water of Life—knowing that they will be critical for victory.

  • Yorick's cape is made of thousands of undead souls. It is made from the Mist and is always trying to possess him.

    • Yorick's relationship with it was described by a Riot employee as "60% symbiotic/40% parasitic."[2]
  • Yorick believes the only way to free the souls in the Shadow Isles is to see them through to the "true" death.
  • While Yorick does use the undead souls to do his bidding, he does not see himself as having enslaved them, as he believes that he gives them some agency in what they do.
