Development

- Yasuo is voiced by Liam O'Brien in
League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, Kin of the Stained Blade, and Ruined King. O'Brien also voices Nightbringer Yasuo, Truth Dragon Yasuo, Dream Dragon Yasuo, and Soul Fighter Yasuo.
- Yasuo's Japanese voice actor is Tomokazu Sugita.[1]
- Yasuo's voice actor in Brazil is Marco Antônio Abreu, who also voiced Nightbringer Yasuo, Lucian, and High Noon Lucian.
- Early explorations had him wield two swords.[2] This design would later be revised and used for his brother Yone.
Universe

- The fact that Yasuo's existence being considered a mistake by others is mentioned in his biography is likely a reference to the community's hate toward him as a champion.
- Yone and Yasuo both studied under the same master and know how to draw power from the wind, but only Yasuo knows the full secrets of the technique.[3]
- They are now the only remaining members of the school, likely due to the rest having all been killed by Yasuo when pursuing him.
- The scar on Yasuo's face was caused by Yone in their duel before his death.
- The thread he uses to tie his hair up is handspun Shuriman wool, gifted to him by Taliyah when they parted ways.
- He is currently going to Noxus to find Riven.
League of Legends

- Yasuo - Yone is one of seven pairs of sibling champions (the others being Jinx - Vi, Cassiopeia - Katarina, Kayle - Morgana, Garen - Lux, Nasus - Renekton, and Darius - Draven).
- The flute Yasuo plays in his dance emote is most likely a Shakuhachi (harmonica for High Noon; wind controller for PROJECT).
- His Classic 'dance' references a performance of this instrument.[4]

- Yasuo is the first champion to have an emote that will orient itself the same (dancing emote, facing the bottom-right of the screen), no matter what direction Yasuo was facing. Akali is the second.

- Yasuo's design is largely based on the Japanese rōnin (lit. a wanderer), a samurai whose masters had died or stripped of titles & lands. Many rōnin became mercenaries, bodyguards, or even criminals.
- The length of Yasuo's sword is about that of a tachi or even an ōdachi. However, he wears it cutting edge up like the shorter katana.
- Yasuo [jasɯ̟ᵝo] is a Japanese masculine given name, rendered as 康夫 (roughly "peaceful man") in the Japanese localization.
- From Old Japanese *yasu- "cheap, easy > peaceful"[5] & masculine morpheme *wo.[6]
- Way of the Wanderer's modified critical strike chance references Samurai gameplay portrayals in video games.
- For April Fools' Day 2017, a video showcasing a joke rework for Yasuo was posted by the official Riot Games Twitter account.
- Way of the Wanderer was shown to have Resolve's shield also provide crowd control immunity, similar to Morgana's Black Shield.
- Steel Tempest's third cast was shown to split into three additional whirlwinds in a cone after hitting a champion, similar to Graves' Collateral Damage.
- Wind Wall was shown to form a pentagon of walls, similar to Thresh's The Box.
- Notably, this 'protection from projectiles from all angles' mechanic was later implemented by Samira's Blade Whirl.

- At 25 August 2018, on the statement "One of my favorites", players ranked Yasuo 2nd in CN and 56th in NA. On "Fair to play against" they ranked him 23rd in CN and 137th in NA. Overall on "Gameplay, Visuals, Voice, etc.." they ranked him 1st in CN and 38th in NA.[7]
- As an easter egg, in Set 4 of Teamfight Tactics, Yasuo would flash a Mastery 7 emote if he single-handedly defeats the enemy team as the only remaining unit. This references the community stereotype of Yasuo players loving to flash their Mastery in League of Legends matches.

- Yasuo and Yone's dance music is counterpart and complement to each other's. Their interaction can be viewed here.
- Yasuo and Karma each speak a different, unrelated Ancient Ionian language, given the lack of sound correspondences & cognates (Yasuo's dialect sounds like broken Japanese, parts of it referencing Kiai).
- ▶️ "No cure for fools" might be referencing the Japanese film Yojimbo by Akira Kurosawa.
- ▶️ " Wuju? No, I wouldn't" references ▶️ "Wuju... pass me that potion?", and both are a word play on 'Would you?'

- He references and resembles Miyamoto Musashi and/or Haoumaru from Samurai Shodown via his iconic ponytail design shared with these individuals, where in Musashi's case, it is in reference to the common visual design he is depicted with in fictional media.

- Another note in regards to Yasuo is how his Steel Tempest in the Chinese servers is named/dubbed as 斬鋼閃 (Zhǎngāngshǎn, lit. Slashing Steel Flash), which when read in Japanese with the same characters (Zankousen) is exactly the same name as one of Haoumaru's special moves which is the stronger version of his original standing heavy slash, the Zantetsusen (斬鉄閃, lit. Slashing Iron Flash).

- Yasuo's taunt in most of his skins (save for Nightbringer Yasuo's demon form, as well as Truth and Dream Dragon Yasuo) involves him intaking fluids from his bamboo flask, then spitting the fluids on his blade to "bless it". This is another nod to Haoumaru via a habit done by him in his home series' battle intros.

- This skin has unique attack animations, along with only having three animations compared to the other skins' four.
- When performing his joke, taunt or dance emotes, his helmet reveals his actual face. However, the voice is still filtered.
- His sword blade turns olive-yellow while Last Breath's bonus armor penetration is active, as opposed to a subtle aura covering his sword.
