  • Vex is voiced by Jeannie Tirado, who also voices LoR Non-Champion Non-Spell Indicator1 Cithria of Cloudfield in Legends of Runeterra icon Legends of Runeterra.[1]
  • Vex's release was originally intended to be a narrative beat in the Ruined King storyline and reveal that she empowered Viego Viego to be able to cause a global ruination.[3] This was was delayed due to requiring new shadow rendering technology.[4]
  • Vex's original release skin in development was an Unbound skin.[5]
    • The premise of this skin was that after she faced the Sentinels of Light in the Freljord, she would have been empowered by Viego's Viego's Black Mist and would be revealed to be more powerful in Piltover and Zaun chapter of the Rise of the Sentinels visual novel.
  • Vex's original subclass was an artillery mage, but was shifted towards a more traditional mage due to her gameplay hook working better at a medium range.[6]
  • Vex's codenames in development were Elan, named after her editor, and Shadow Yordle.[7][8]
  • Vex's placeholder model in development was a recolored Little Demon Tristana Little Demon Tristana.[8]
  • One of the scrapped spells tested on Vex included the ability to slow down enemy missile speeds.[9]
  • Vex was pitched by Elan 'Qulani' Stimmel as a "goth/tsundere yordle girl".[10]

  • Despite having a direct relation and interactions with Viego Viego, Vex is one of few Shadow Isles champions that have no relation to the origin of the Black Mist or the Ruination.

Gameplay

  • Vex was the third of three champions released in 2021 tied to Viego's Viego's return and a continuation of the Ruined King's story.[11]
  • Vex's Shadow cannot be disabled in game.
  • Vex shares a few similarities with Zato-ONE from Guilty Gear series.
    • Both fight with a shadow companion. Her shadow baring a slight resemblance to Eddie's design in the game.
  • Vex's laugh animation references the Laughing Spongebob meme.[12]

  • In the Portuguese localization, ▶️   "Awesome! I mean... Whatever..." is replaced by "Que foda! Digo... Tanto faz...", which uses profanity and translates to "Fuck yeah! I mean... Whatever..."
  • In the Latin Spanish localization, ▶️   "Ahh, Viego... is okay. I mean, he's whatever... I guess." is replaced by "Ah... Viego Viego, es un papucho. ¡Digo! Es... como sea. Supongo." ("Ah, Viego, he's so hot and attractive. I mean! It's... whatever. I guess."), that is a reference to a quote said by Doris in the Latin Spanish dub of the Shrek 2 film ("¿Bromeas? Es un papucho. Su cara parece tallada por los mismos ángeles."). The quote has reached meme-status in Spanish-speaking communities.
