- All of Veigar's active abilities (excluding Baleful Strike) refer to space. Event Horizon a reference to the edge of a black hole, the point at which light cannot escape. Dark Matter a reference to the undetectable matter in space. Primordial Burst a reference to the Big Bang, the prevailing cosmological model that explains the early development of the Universe. His old passive, Equilibrium, which means "Balance", is an important concept in stellar and orbital physics.
- Veigar's appearance is similar to the Black Mage, a character from the Final Fantasy series.
- Event Horizon used to deal 1 point of true damage to all units inside the cage and in very rare occasions it could even kill a unit when it was at 1 health.

- Veigar is over 1,500 years old, as he was present during Mordekaiser's second crusade.
- He was possibly captured by the Iron Revenant around 400 BN, or 1400 years ago.[6]
- He was possibly affected by Stockholm syndrome after being held captive for years by Mordekaiser.
- 8 Mirror Mage could be LeBlanc's servant, secretly manipulating Veigar, so that he could confront Mordekaiser in the future.
- If after the defeat of Mordekaiser, Veigar didn't go far anywhere, then he may now be somewhere in the vicinity of Noxus. The fact that the Noxians don't bother him, despite the facts of his victories over local warlords and sorcerers, may be due to the secret patronage of LeBlanc.
- Theoretically, if Mordekaiser will bring Veigar to Mitna Rachnun, then Veigar will be able to destroy the pocket realm by using the Cosmic Magic (Celestial, Elemental and Primordial Spiritual magic) and in particular his spell Primordial Burst, thereby freeing all the souls captured there. And LeBlanc will finally defeat The Iron Revenant.
- After Lulu was released in League of Legends, the community immediately began creating a lot of content featuring her and Veigar, which led to Riot Games officially making them friends in the game's old lore.

This is the first time Veigar has had a deeper, horrifyingly strong nature to his character potentially revealed (via his voice-over).

- His voice is similar to the Shadow Selves' voices in the English dubbed version of Persona 4 series.
- His hands and feet floating near his body without any arms or legs is a reference to the Rayman series.
- The glove on his right hand resembles the Power Glove, an accessory for the NES.
- His right hand appears on the teaser with the hand on giant proportions, being a reference to the Master Hand from Super Smash Bros series.
- It is revealed in the splash art for this skin that the 3 red buttons on the knuckles have the letters Q, W, and E on them. This is a reference to many Real-Time Strategy games (such as League of Legends), where Q, W, E, and R are used to cast spells or abilities.
- During his recall animation, he inputs a code that strongly resembles the Konami Code into his glove (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A).
- His Baleful Strike is a reference to "The Wizard Agahnim" from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
- His Dark Matter causes different pieces from Tetris to fall.
- His Primordial Burst is a box of binary code, a number system that computers use to run.
