Ultimate Spellbook is a Featured Game Mode in League of Legends. Players choose one additional, random champion's ultimate ability to deploy in chaotic duels and teamfights.[1]

Ultimate spell selection UI

  • One summoner spell slot is occupied by a Placeholder Ult-ernate Summoner Spell that cannot be swapped out with another summoner spell. Junglers instead have a Placeholder and Attack-Smite.
  • At the start of the match, you will be given 30 seconds to choose from a pool of 4 ultimates.
    • If you do not confirm to take the ultimate you have selected, that ultimate will be taken automatically.
    • If you do not select any ultimate, the first ultimate is taken by default.
  • Once an ultimate has been picked, your Placeholder Ult-ernate Summoner Spell is switched to Loading Spell, which is then shortly after switched to the Ult-ernate Summoner Spell version of the ultimate you chose.
    • You can still rank up your own champion's ultimate.
    • The icons of Ult-ernate Summoner Spells in-game are not the icon of the specific champion's ultimate ability. They use the champion's portrait icon instead for better clarity.
  • All Ult-ernate Summoner Spells do not have resource costs and have an initial cooldown of 130 seconds, increased to 210 if you have Attack-Smite.
    • These ultimates can be used even before reaching level 6.
  • At 8:00, all players are offered another selection of 4 ultimates to replace their current ultimate with a different one. This occurs every 6 minutes thereafter.
    • The selection is offered only while either dead or at the fountain.
    • The ultimate's cooldown is refreshed after selection.
    • The player's current ultimate is always the first ultimate offered in the selection, meaning that the player may choose to keep the ultimate they have by selecting the first slot in the pool or replace it with a different one available from the rest of the pool (3 ultimates).
      • If the current ultimate is on cooldown, it will still be refreshed after choosing to keep it.
      • Each time a player swaps their current ultimate for a different one, their champion gains 300 Gold 300 and 5 − 20 (based on level) adaptive force,  Healing from Spirit of Dread (W)armor, and  Champions that have been made a Vessel by Test of Spirit (E)magic resistance permanently.
  • All players have 80 summoner spell haste, Champions killed with Comeuppance (R)bonus health, and Champions killed 5s before or after using Chronobreak (R)40 bonus movement speed out-of-combat.
  • You can see everyone's chosen Ult-ernate Summoner Spells on both the scoreboard and next to their health bar.
  • You start at level 3 and with 950 Gold 950.
  • Passive experience and gold are increased and you share minion gold with teammates in lane.
  • Slaying Baron Nashor Baron Nashor or Elder Dragon Elder Dragon, or acquiring the Dragon Soul Dragon Soul, rewards your team with an Ulternate Summoner Charge.
    • Ulternate Summoner Charge: After casting your Ulter-nate Summoner Spell, consume this effect to refresh the cooldown of the spell after 3 seconds of having casted it.
  • Turret Platings Turret Platings fall off at 9:00.
  • Rift Scuttler Rift Scuttler spawns at 3:00 and has a respawn timer of 90 seconds.
  • The Voidgrub camp spawns at 3:30 and has a respawn timer of 150 seconds.
  • Dragon Dragon spawns at 4:00 and has a respawn timer of 240 seconds.
  • Baron Nashor Baron Nashor spawns at 10:00 and has a respawn timer of 180 seconds.
  • Unsealed Spellbook Unsealed Spellbook is disabled in this mode and is exchanged with First Strike First Strike.

Attack-Smite[]

Junglers have "Placeholder and Attack-Smite" instead of Placeholder Ult-ernate Summoner Spell in champion select. It gets replaced by the Ult-ernate Summoner Spell that they select at the beginning of the game and causes jungle items ( ) to gain a new passive effect named Attack Smite.

      • These ultimates now scale with Champions stunned with Pyromania (P)2.414% bonus AD per Multiple champions hit with Between Worlds (R)1% AP.

  • User Interface
    • Bug Fix: Clicking the "Confirm" button upon selecting an Ult-ernate Summoner Spell will now play an SFX.

    • Removed: No longer uses the Ruined Summoner's Rift map.

    • Removed: No longer uses the Ruined Dragon. A dragon of only one type will spawn once every 3:30 minutes.
    • New Effect: The first 2 dragons will now be random. The elemental rift will either be the Chemtech Rift Chemtech Rift or Hextech Rift Hextech Rift and the final dragons will either be the Chemtech Drake Chemtech Drake or Hextech Drake Hextech Drake.
    • New Effect: Slaying epic monsters now grants a buff that deals Champions killed with Comeuppance (R)0.3% maximum health Damage mitigated with Shifting Sands (E)magic damage once every second against turrets whenever you damage them.
  • Summoner spells
    • Junglers now have Auto-Smite instead of Placeholder Ult-ernate Summoner Spell in champion select. Auto-Smite gets replaced by the Ult-ernate that they select at the beginning of the game, granting a buff that is also called Auto-Smite.
      • Auto Smite: Causes damage dealt against Blue Sentinel Blue Sentinel, Red Brambleback Red Brambleback, Rift Scuttler Rift Scuttler, or epic monsters while they are below Champions killed with Comeuppance (R)450 health to deal Skillshots dodged with Void Surge (Q) 450 bonus true damage.
      • When Ivern Ivern takes Auto-Smite, he will not be able to use it to bypass Friend of the Forest's Friend of the Forest's grove maturation timer. However, freeing a qualifying jungle camp will trigger Auto-Smite, granting him the heal and jungle starter item stack that a regular Smite Smite would.

      • Unique Passive - Huntsman: Killing large monsters grants Champions killed with Trueshot Barrage (R)60 bonus experience. The first large monster killed grants an additional Champions killed with Trueshot Barrage (R)150 bonus experience, for a total of inherit210. If you are at least 2 levels below the average level of the game, large monster kills grant Champions killed with Trueshot Barrage (R)50 bonus experience per level below the average level of all players in the game. If your gold from minions is greater than 40% your gold from monsters, a lane minion will grant 13 less gold and 50% reduced experience. This penalty is removed at 20 minutes.
      • Recoup: Regenerate up to Champions hit by Piltover Peacemakers (Q) at greater than 75% of max range8 − 18 (based on level) mana per second when in the jungle or river, based on Champions hit by Piltover Peacemakers (Q) at greater than 75% of max rangemissing mana.
