  • tl;dr: Strategy pages, should we keep them as is, should we try to salvage them as a concept, or should we just get rid of them completely. Reply below with your opinions.

Strategy pages have been a contentious subject for many a wiki user over the past couple years, they're one of the few places on the wiki where we host subjective information and opinions rather than just hard, fact based data and to some that isn't the goal of a wiki and as a result those users feel strategy pages should be removed. We've had this discussion before but never really got anything out of it but we're here today to try and settle this years long debate.

I'm personally of the opinion they should be removed and that a wiki is not the place for things like build/gameplay suggestions, there are plenty of other sites out there if a user wants that kind of information. I suggest moving the official riot information like recommended items to a different tab and just either archiving the strategy pages or deleting them all.

    • I have an Idea,

Yes on, Remove the strategy (builds and gameplay) because it changes every patch/season and everyone has their own opinion on how to build or play with that champion.

But I suggest for those who don't know or are starting to learn that champion, I would say Create a page stating "hey you can do this, do that with this champion" by 'going to'/'linking the' webpage to that specific page/site(s) eg. <reg>.op.gg

    • I would modify it to have Riot strategy information, like recomended builds, and links to pages which can provide information about strategy, like Champion.gg

    • Just remove the strategy section. Strategy discussion on the wiki belongs in their respective comments section since comments are made based on time and can be as subjective as it wants to be.

        Loading editor
    • I'm on the remove side, it'd probably be better for people to go to mobafire to learn how to play champs

        Loading editor
    • I'm for removal. most of the pages are so hideously outdated (i.e Leblanc's strategy section still mentions the slow in her chains before i edited them out) and updating them all is just a waste of time. and most people who look for guides to play a champion go to either the comment section to seek for help or to other sites such as Mobafire or op.gg

    • I agree. It needs hard work to make a standard for those pages, clear the old and unnecessary data, and make the people work with those, and everything time a patch comes on everything needs to made again.

The only conflict left is what to do with official Riot information. It either should be removed or move to other sections that help the people a bit. In my opinion, the video spotlight should be kept in dev or history section while the recommended items removed, it because similar to the strategy page, it can be outdated easily with patches and people may forget to change it.

Another Idea is adding to each item section and list of champion that have those items as recommended.

    • Remove what currently is there. Leave the Riot tips and suggested items.

        Loading editor
    • Thing that people have to realize is that the Riot's recommended items have be added manually, for each champion (and for each map (+ lane/jungler)).

And Riot often even sometimes updates the recommended items, but they rarely mention it in patch notes, which makes it very hard to keep the Riot's recommended items up-to-date on the wiki.

    • If we had a rating system and a timestamp for each strategy it would be suffice to say that the strategy section is good.

      • Rating to weed out bad strategies from good strategies.
      • Timestamps for a reference in regards to relevance.

Unfortunately, neither elements are in the current strategy section. In its current state, it just doesn't belong there. Unless we have a method to at least bring these two elements together and categorize the strategies for each champion, the strategy section shouldn't exist.

    • Remove. Things change from time to time with updates and it's unrealistic to keep 120+ page updated every patches or when somebody discover hidden build/strategy

    • guys the strategy sections are already removed xD

        Loading editor
    • Of course, delete them all pls.

I had never thought they are proper things on this wiki.

My opinion is just same as yours: wikies are never places for suggestions, but for DATAS, INFORMATIONS and OBJECTIVE FACTS.

The strategy pages haven't been removed yet, they are just hidden from the champion tab for now.

If you go to Ahri/Strategy, you can see that all the content is still there, you just need to use the URL to get there.

The item sets are in the game files as simple .json's, so if one was to make a bot that goes through the game files checking for changed stuff (with the bot's own 'memory' somewhere else), then automatically updates a wikia template with that stuff, wouldn't that be the easiest option? The bot would have to be usable by admins only obviously, so nobody could mess with anything there.

We still don't know how to, or we simply can't, use bots to automize stuff by going inside each champion json. The only thing we can do is manually copy paste the json we need to use on the wiki, and copying 142 jsons each patch is too much.

Currently we only copy the ddragon json http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/9.10.1/data/en_US/champion.json and the jsons that are found in this folder http://raw.communitydragon.org/latest/plugins/rcp-be-lol-game-data/global/default/v1/. Only in this folder. Not inside the folders of the folder. Considering this, you cannot find the item sets in any of these jsons.

    • I vote for including "tips and tricks" in the ability details, or creating a separate tab on the ability details for tips and tricks (like the Warframe wiki has). This section would be for advice/usage information, similar to how we provide on Runes and Items, and would not be intended as a guide. Some things we already list as "ability details" could be expanded upon/given more information - such as Fiddlesticks' Drain persisting through untargetability.

    • If they are to be kept, they should only contain unbiased information that everyone could easily check for themselves. E.g. "Ryze's highest damage combo is QEQWQ". Or "Pyke shouldn't build Warmog because he will never have enough hp to benefit from its passive".

The only unbias information is official riot reveal strategy info, spotlights, and recommended items. Anything else is fan bias even if its a logical tip deduced by a fan. Seems like most of that info can just be placed in ether ability and development pages.

    • The information about Warmog's on Pyke is the kind of thing I would still in the usage-information on his innate.

    • can the autoplay ""champion spotlight" from every champion page be disabled already? its so annoying, its 2019 it should be clear by now nobody wants an autoplay video when theyre checking a page

    • It'd be nice werwar but there's not much that can be done about it, they were put there by Wikia staff and for some reason they won't allow for them to be removed, and it's annoying because other than that and the terrible Wikia mobile site which is again out of our control this is a great wiki But this isn't really related to Champion Strategy pages. Perhaps create a new thread if you wish to discuss it further.

        Loading editor
    • do you know anyone who could tell the wikia staff themselves to end it? why do they have ultimate control over it anyway? its doesnt make any sense, sorry to derail but the discussion seems pretty much over anyway

Nobody wants it there, its actively annoying a bunch of people and nobody seems to bother to remove it, I get that its difficult, but then we need to know who exactly is responsible for preventing this

        Loading editor
    • "why do they have ultimate control over it anyway?"

well idk, maybe because fandom is their platform? People complained about the video that shows at the top of the champion pages, and fandom finally removed it about a month ago.

anyway, yea, let's not continue this discussion over here

        Loading editor
    • so any updates?

        Loading editor
    • Well the articles themselves have been hidden on the landing page for a couple months now. We'll be moving "critical" information to other areas over the coming months, although more substantial design work may be needed and so there's no rush.

    • Lack of censorship is a chief strength

I have divergent game theories and tactics polished over 5 yrs

of 8 games a day, (2 milion XP) this is one of the few plalces,

(I've yet to find another outlet beside this one)

where you can post an opinion,

Revise , update, and archive the useful ones, I would suggest  posting effectiveness ratings

( I would volunteer to track) so people can review the RESULTS of these theories.

As a collective we could fine tune this groups build ideas, and cease having to wait for the next META from Korea.

But as soon as you wipe it clean, and just put up items for a build on Wiki

How/who decides what goes up?  , Its going to wind up being SOMEONE's build idea

might as well be ours.  I have no need to come here if the advice is go look it

up elsewhere, Fandom could be THE defninitive source.  Removal, doesnt even try.

    • What christ in the , you are trying to say?

Take your delusions elsewhere and don't comment on things you've no idea about. You want to theorycraft garbage like zero crit chalice Jhin with smite and heal? Do it on a notepad. Not here nor on Reddit. The topic at hand has nothing to do with censorship. It's about redundancy.

Hopefully I'm the last one that needs to bleach their eyes from witnessing your insanity.
