So, I'm just going to put this out there.
A while ago when
was still a thing in the game, we used to have an extensive section on every item page which listed similar items. Back then we had a long discussion on the forums about how we would deal with these sections, seeing as they were getting to be so big that they were half the size of the Items List. After the discussion we cast a vote on if we should:- Limit the amount of items
- Remove the sections.
In the end removing the sections won overwhelmingly. Present day when I browse the items, to my surprise they are back again. And not just back, when you look at their implementation on
, they are lacking or follow a weird logical pattern. They use several stats as their base:- Percentage Armor Reduction.
- Percentage Armor Penetration
- Flat Armor Penetration
- Percentage Magical Penetration
What I notice instantly is that Flat Magical Penetration is not included. So the metrics seem to be "Percentage Penetration" and "Ways to reduce armors effectiveness" for the similarities. Just this one item brings me back to the original issue that caused us to remove these sections in the first place.
Where do we consistently draw the line so everyone is happy?
Because when you look at completeness sake, it's AD and therefore similar to every AD item in the game in at least a basic level. For the sake of nitpicking, there's only 1 item in the game that grants percentage armor penetration therefore there are no similar items. As Youmuu's provides Flat penetration, and TBC provides Flat Penetration and Percentage Armor Reduction. Even if we'd decide on a puritan solution, the
shouldn't be in that list at all since it provides ommitance of a completely different type of damage.Real Question
Do we really want to get back into the debate of "What is similar" again to make the "Similar Items" section an actual thing for every item on the wiki?
