Stealth is the mechanic by which some units become invisible for a determined period of time. Stealth is divided into three categories: Ambush 2 Camouflage (also known as Strategic stealth), Twilight Shroud old2 Invisibility (also known as Tactical stealth) and Noxious Trap Stealthed traps.

Camouflage

EditCamouflage is a form of stealth that renders a unit hidden from enemy Sight icon vision for a long period of time. It is usually activated preemptively in order to ambush an enemy or to bypass the surveillance of hostile Ward icon wards patrolling an area. It also grants Ghost ghosting.
  • Camouflaged units are revealed while being inside the line of sight (e.g. not in the fog of war, behind terrain, or blocked by Nearsight icon nearsight) of a nearby enemy Champion icon champion (with the range depending on the ability), when within the vision radius of an enemy Control Ward Control Ward (900 units), or from sources of True Sight icon True Sight.
  • Stealthed units shimmer their character model for 0.6 seconds whenever they take damage.
    • A unit will shimmer for every instance of damage they take, and shimmering does not make the unit targetable nor remove the stealth effect, but grants positional information to the enemy.
  • When a camouflaged unit can be seen, they will be warned by an exclamation mark above them indicating they have been spotted.

Champions
  • Evelynn's Evelynn's Demon Shade Demon Shade, starting from level 6, allows her to permanently enter camouflage after being out-of-combat for 4 seconds.
  • Rengar's Rengar's Thrill of the Hunt Thrill of the Hunt enters camouflage for up to 12 / 16 / 20 seconds, gaining 40% bonus movement speed. Attacking or casting most spells breaks camouflage.
  • Twitch's Twitch's Ambush Ambush enters camouflage after 1 second for 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 / 14 seconds, gaining 10% bonus movement speed, increased to 30% while moving towards nearby enemy champions who cannot see him. Attacking or casting spells breaks camouflage.

Invisibility

EditInvisibility is a form of stealth that renders a unit hidden from enemy Sight icon vision for a short period of time. It can be utilized to sneak in on opponents as well as the ability to reposition in-combat or simply to flee from a skirmish. It also grants Ghost ghosting.
  • Invisible units can only be revealed by True Sight icon True Sight.
  • Stealthed units shimmer their character model for 0.6 seconds whenever they take damage.
    • A unit will shimmer for every instance of damage they take, and shimmering does not make the unit targetable nor remove the stealth effect, but grants positional information to the enemy.

Champions
  • Akali's Akali's Twilight Shroud Twilight Shroud, while inside the smoke cover, Akali immediately gains invisibility and 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100% bonus movement speed. If Akali uses a basic attack or ability inside her smoke cover, she will reveal herself for 0.65 seconds.
  • Kai'Sa's Kai'Sa's Supercharge Supercharge enters invisibility for 0.5 seconds while Disarm icon charging.

Stealthed traps

Items

Stealth Ward icon Stealth Wards or Totem Ward icon Totem Wards from:

Vanish

EditIn addition to granting Untargetable icon untargetability, vanish briefly hides a unit from the game's renderer, which causes it to become completely undetectable and invisible even to effects such as Oracle Lens Oracle Lens. Vanished units are Lockout icon 2 unable to act. As with all untargetability, Focused Resolve tethers will still persist on a target that vanishes.

Vanish is not considered Guerrilla Warfare stealth and does not interact with Sight icon sight effects.

Invisibility detection

There are various ways for a champion to gain the ability to see stealth. A champion with this ability will see stealthed enemy units as partially translucent. When a revealed stealthed unit leaves the revealed area that unit does not experience a fade time; the unit immediately turns stealthed again. The following is a list of possible ways to detect stealthed champions:

Items

Champion abilities

The following abilities can reveal stealthed units for a period of time:

Turrets

Allied turrets have a "true sight" stealth detection range that will reveal any stealthed unit. This range is equal to the turret's attack range. Note that neither inhibitors nor nexuses possess this property.

Items breaking Invisibility

The following in-game elements will break Invisibility upon activation.

Items
Trinkets

Items not breaking Invisibility

The following in-game elements will not break Invisibility upon activation.

Consumables

Presence detection without reveal

All abilities that do not require single target to cast can affect stealthed champions (but will not reveal them).

Certain abilities can only be cast if an enemy is in range of the AoE casting circle - these abilities will light up and become available to use even if the only enemy in range is a stealthed enemy.

  • Hecarim's Hecarim's Spirit of Dread Spirit of Dread can reveal the position of stealthed champions due to the particle that it generates. The champion will not be revealed.
  • Camille's Camille's Hookshot Hookshot can detect stealthed champions because gains extra range when it hits the wall with an enemy nearby, including stealthed ones. The champion will not be revealed.
  • Katarina's Katarina's Death Lotus Death Lotus can detect stealthed champions due to its working mechanic - can only be used if there's an enemy champion (even stealthed) in its casting range.
  • Kennen's Kennen's Electrical Surge Electrical Surge can detect stealthed champions due to the particle effect pointing in their direction. The stealthed champion will not be revealed.
  • Morgana's Morgana's Soul Shackles Soul Shackles can detect stealthed champions due to its working mechanic - can only be used if there's an enemy champion (even stealthed) in its casting range.
  • Nocturne's Nocturne's Duskbringer Duskbringer will provide semi-reveal if it lands. Though stealthed unit will still be immune to auto attacks and targeted spells, Duskbringer's trail will compromise the position of said unit for 5 seconds, even through movement.
  • Rek'Sai's Rek'Sai's Tremor Senses Tremor Senses will perceive the position of any moving unit, even stealthed ones.
  • Soraka's Soraka's Starcall Starcall heal animation shows if the skillshot hit a champion, whether it's invisible or not.
  • Talon's Talon's Blade's End Blade's End causes struck enemies to leave behind a trail of blood even during stealth, similarly to Nocturne Nocturne's aforementioned Duskbringer Duskbringer.
  • Teemo's Teemo's Noxious Trap Noxious Trap will explode but not reveal stealthed champions.
  • Tryndamere's Tryndamere's Mocking Shout Mocking Shout can detect stealthed champions due to its working mechanic - can only be used if there's an enemy champion (even stealthed) in its casting range.
  • Viktor's Viktor's Chaos Storm Chaos Storm will follow a stealthed target and fire it's lightning bolts at it. The stealthed champion will not be revealed.
  • Vladimir's Vladimir's Tides of Blood Tides of Blood can detect stealthed champions due to the particle effect flying in their direction. The stealthed champion will not be revealed.
  • Warwick's Warwick's Blood Hunt Blood Hunt does not reveal stealthed champions but if they are below half health, he will receive the blood trail and the movement speed bonus.

Skill shots

While skill shots that do damage and/or stun such as Ashe's Ashe's Enchanted Crystal Arrow Enchanted Crystal Arrow will still hit stealthed champions, they will still not be revealed. Note that the visible projectile will stop short of its trajectory and show visual and audio effects (e.g. Dr Dr. Mundo's Infected Cleaver Infected Cleaver will make a splatter and show a small eruption of blood upon impact) if a stealthed unit is hit, indicating the stealthed champion's presence but not revealing them. Here are some more ways to detect stealthed enemies since they'll function the same as if they are unseen in brush.

Forcing enemies out of stealth

Taunting a stealthed enemy will cause him to attack, automatically revealing him and forcing him out of stealth. This can work if you target a visible stealthed unit or if the enemy is currently entering into stealth. With AoE taunts you can force every stealthed champion in the area to attack, even if they are invisible. Note that Rammus' Rammus' Frenzying Taunt Frenzying Taunt can't be casted on stealth champions.

In the case of Teemo's Teemo's Guerrilla Warfare Guerrilla Warfare, direction targeted skills which can Airborne icon displace, Charm icon charm or Flee icon flee him will force him out of stealth.
