Main article: Smolder (Development)
  • Smolder is voiced by Georgie Cordova Kidder.[1]
  • Smolder's placeholder model in development was a recolored Monarch Kog'Maw Monarch Kog'Maw.[3]
  • Smolder's codenames in development were BabyDragon and Young Dragon, abbreviated as YD.[3][4]
    • Because "YD" sounded like a rapper's name, a member of his development team wrote several rap verses for him and his concept artist, Oussama 'Whiteleyth' Agazzoum, drew him an album cover illustration.[5]
  • A scrapped version of Smolder involved him being the son of the current elemental rift dragon and gaining unique bonuses on Super Scorcher Breath Super Scorcher Breath per dragon. If it were an Infernal Rift, it would explode; if it were an Ocean Rift, it would slow; and if it were a Chemtech Rift, it would apply a poison.[6]
    • This was scrapped due to being too demanding on the art teams as well as being too random.
  • The dogs of various Rioters were sampled for Smolder's sound effects.[7]
    • Rob 'KingCobra' Rosa's dog, Hagen, was used for his auto-attacks and Achooo! Achooo!.
    • Daniel 'KDan' Kim's dog, Simba[8], was used for his emotes and Flap, Flap, Flap Flap, Flap, Flap.

  • Vol Visperi-Desinvei, the pact that bound Grandmother Viper's brood to the royal family of Camavor, roughly translates to "will of (old slur for dragons) and (old slur for humans)".[9]
  • Smolder is bilingual, able to speak both draconic and human languages. His mother primarily speaks with him in draconic in order for him to not lose touch with his cultural ancestry.[10]
    • This was based on Kristina 'Goblin' Atanasoski's experience of not growing up bilingual and not being able to connect with her father on a level he'd be more comfortable communicating in.[11][12]
