"I thought maybe you could love me like you used to. Even though I'm... different. But you changed too. So, here's to the new us."

In Dev Update - Champs, Lore & More, Laura 'poisonpixxi' DeYoung, Head of IP Creative for Riot Games, elaborated on their new approach to narrative cohesiveness by ironing out any inconsistencies that have sprung up over the years.

This article contains information that conflicts with this new narrative and will most likely be changed/moved in the following year(s).

Brackern[]

Surrounded around the Shuriman Continent are several clans of Brackern, including clans in the Shuriman desert.

Dormun[]

The Dormun are gigantic, slow-moving creatures protected with large chitinous plates covering their body. In the harsh conditions of Shurima they have evolved to survive the perpetual drought by utilizing an unknown sense to locate hidden reservoirs of water. Incidentally, certain nomadic tribes have built themselves a permanent home upon the backs of these beasts where they clean the creature and hunt any airborne pests who venture near.

Eka'Sul[]

Desert goats that travel in herds.

Mwatis[]

Mwatis are goatlike creatures with large plated casques on their heads. Mwati wool and plate are prised for felting and insulation.

Kmiros[]

Gigantic scarabs that roam in swarms, looking for unfortunate travelers to feed on. They seem to be common prey for Rammus Rammus.

Outerbeasts[]

Beside the Xer'Sai, other creatures from the Void, referred to as 'outerbeasts', can be found in the desert.

  • Xer'Sai: Creatures from the Void that plague the southern deserts. They are the size of big dogs on average, but can be smaller or much bigger. Rek'Sai Rek'Sai, as the queen, is by far the largest and most dangerous of her species. Xer'sai burst from their small burrows and ravage anything nearby, to the detriment of desert caravans. Once dead, the Xer'sai decompose at an abnormally rapid rate and become inedible.

Ralsiji[]

Large and aggressive minotaur-like creatures. They are humpbacked quadrupeds with long limbs and thick horns.

Shuriman Camel[]

A breed of camels native to the deserts of Shurima and are used by caravans as well as common folk as primary mode of transportation. Despite being well-suited for lengthy travels in the desert landscape, they are still prey to a many predator such as the Xer'Sai.

Sandswimmers[]

Shurima Sandswimmers

Sandswimmers

Sandswimmers are massive quadrupedal creatures that traverse the Shuriman desert in cyclical patterns. They got their name due to their preferred method of travel. Their narrow bodies and webbed feet are perfectly design for swimming under the sand. They feed on bugs and other small creatures most desert beasts ignore. Scavengers will often memorize the predictable paths these creatures take, and jump onto their backs to ride as far as they wish.

Skallashi[]

The Skallashi are large quadrupedal herbivores. These hardy beasts of burden are common across Shurima, ideally suited to the harsh desert environment. Their key body feature is their long legs. Notoriously bad-tempered, they are nevertheless treated with great reverence. Their brown hides are often painted with sacred symbols of protection, and their horns hung with totems and charms. While these creatures are mostly used for travel and carrying heavy loads, on some larger skallashi people are able to built miniature rooms for more comfortable travel. To own one is often considered a sign of considerable prosperity.

"I thought you understood. The mutation must survive."
Singed Singed to Viktor Viktor, When These Walls Come Tumbling Down

Singed, formerly known as Corin Reveck, is a Zaunite scientist known for having created the drug shimmer. Despite his extraordinary intellect, Singed lacks compassion and believes that there's nothing that he can't sacrifice to make advances in his research-even his own humanity, if it comes down to it.

Background

Early life

Not much is known about Singed's early life, but he was once a brilliant scientist named Corin Reveck. During his younger years, he was known to have worked with Heimerdinger Heimerdinger. At some point, Reveck sired a daughter, who he loved very dearly, but she eventually died to an unknown cause. Reveck then became obsessed with "curing" his daughter and dedicated all his research to end. Heimerdinger did not approve of Singed's unethical and inhumane methods, however, the two of them eventually parted ways, with Reveck's "crimes" erased from the record. Having been kicked out of Piltover, Reveck abandoned his name and moved to the undercity.[1]

Life in Zaun

Singed would continue his chemical research, finding ways to utilize the toxic waste of the undercity for his own purposes. At some point after he arrived in Zaun, Singed would adopt a Waverider named Rio, who had a rare mutation beneficial for his research.

One day while he was working with Rio, Singed met a boy Viktor Viktor when the latter stumbled across his home. Impressed by a ship contraption that Viktor made and noting that the boy had an interest in Rio, Singed befriended him and the two started to work together to save her life. However, Singed's heartless methods in preserving Rio's mutation drove Viktor away after he found out, leaving Singed alone in his pursuits.

Several years after Vander Vander became the de-facto leader of the undercity, Singed found employment under a Zaunite crime lord named Silco Silco and invented an addictive superhuman drug called shimmer. One day, while working on the drug in his lab, he got caught in a massive explosion triggered by Powder Powder and suffered severe burns as a result, particularly on the right side of his face. However, this did not end his cooperation with Silco and the latter was able to ultimately take control of Zaun with shimmer.

Piltovan Bicentennial

Years after Silco took over the undercity, a dying Viktor, now a young man, came to Singed and told him that he finally understood his convictions from back then. After seeing Viktor's research on the Hexcore, Singed agreed to help him and gave him a vial of modified shimmer to help him use the Hexcore to cure his illness.

After Jinx was mortally wounded in her battle with Ekko Ekko, Silco took her to Singed for help. Using a highly experimental shimmer procedure, he was able to save her life and enhance her physical abilities to superhuman levels. At the same time, however, the procedure also permanently changed her eye color to pink and exacerbated her mental instability. Although Singed warned him about the risks of the procedure and the possibility of her succumbing to her wounds, Silco was unwilling to let Jinx die, leading Singed to sedate him so that he wouldn't have to see Jinx suffer during the procedure. When Silco regained consciousness, he pinned down Singed with a knife and angrily demanded to know what he'd done. In response, Singed said that he had saved Jinx's life.

After Silco's death, Singed began the process of experimenting on the body of Vander Vander in his lab to create Warwick Warwick.

Appearance

Singed is a tall but extremely thin and pale-skinned, middle-aged man with chestnut hair and brown eyes. He is generally shown wearing a tattered brown coat and suit. The fire that destroyed his lab left his hair singed and several scars on his face. Eventually, Singed would start wearing additional bandages on his face to cover up the scars inflicted there by an unknown test subject.

Personality

Despite his callous demeanor, Singed was not always heartless, as he used to have genuinely good intentions since he wanted his experiments to save lives. He felt a sincere kinship with Viktor due to their similar pasts from being sickly and frail, and helped him try to find a way to cure his illness even though the two of them had not seen each other in years. He was also shown to love and mourn his deceased daughter, and gave Silco a sedative before operating on Jinx so he wouldn't have to watch his adoptive daughter suffer. It's likely that Singed's development into his current sociopathic self was caused by the chemicals he injected into his body to boost his productivity, which came at the cost of his humanity and his empathy.

Abilities

  • Chemically Enhanced Physiology: Due to the countless experiments that he performed on himself, Singed possesses physical abilities far above that of a normal human.
    • Enhanced Durability: Singed can endure much more damage than a normal human. He was blasted with a massive explosion of Shimmer and, although he received some heavy scars, he doesn't to have any kind of loss of function with his physical capabilities.
  • Inventor: Singed is a gifted alchemist and inventor, having created numerous chemical serums and blends over the course of his life. By far his most famous creation is Shimmer, a drug that enhances the physical attributes of its users to superhuman levels and was used by Silco to build an army strong enough to keep the Topsiders out of Zaun. He was also able to alter Vander's Vander's DNA to transform him into a savage, wolf-like beast and even give him unique blood that enabled him to heal from any injury he suffered, no matter how severe.
    • Poison Gas Poison Gas: Singed carries with him several vials of poisonous gas, which he once used to kill a giant two-headed wolf.
  • Ingenuity: Singed managed to hunt down a two-headed giant wolf by cornering it inside a cave and killing it single-handedly using his chemical weapons. He knew that Vander now transformed would track him to Stillwater Prison, killing all the prison guards and Noxian soldiers along the way. He knew that Ambessa would see value in his experiments and already expected that she would come to his cell to negotiate his release in exchange for his loyalty.

Relations

Cecil B. Heimerdinger Cecil B. Heimerdinger

Singed and Heimerdinger used to be partners and as a result, it can be assumed they were once close. However, as Heimerdinger could not bring himself to accept Singed's depraved methods, the two of them decided to split up and go their own separate ways. Currently, the two scientists do not associate themselves with each other and it's not clear as to whether Heimerdinger even knows that Singed is still alive.

Viktor Viktor

"Love and legacy are the sacrifices we make for progress."
— Singed, The Boy Savior

Originally, Singed's relationship with Viktor started off on friendly terms, particularly due to the fact that Viktor wanted to save Rio and that Singed was impressed by Viktor's ingenuity despite his young age. However, their relationship eventually fell apart when Viktor discovered the truth about Singed and his immoral research methods, prompting the boy to abandon Singed and go off on his own.

Despite this, Viktor still respected Singed for his expertise as a scientist. He also eventually came to understand why Singed was the way he was and even went back years later to the undercity in order to ask the latter for his help to cure his illness. Although he had not seen Viktor in years, Singed was still willing to aid him, which suggests that the two of them, despite their differences, are still on decent terms.

Silco Silco

"Please understand, this is for your own sanity. I, too, once had a daughter."
— Singed, Oil and Water

Singed and Silco have a typical business relationship. Silco also respects Singed for his scientific expertise, especially since he created Shimmer, and has a great deal of faith in the latter's abilities, as displayed when he immediately brought Jinx to him to heal her after she suffered severe injuries in her fight with Ekko. During the surgery, Singed offered to give Silco sedatives to stop him from seeing the agony Jinx would suffer during the operation, due to Singed empathizing with Silco as a father himself.

Jinx Jinx

"I understand this must be painful. I'm afraid this will only get worse."
— Singed, Oil and Water

When Silco rushed to his lab to save Jinx, Singed warned him that the procedure that could save her would force her into lots of physical and mental pain, or die in the worst-case scenario. When Silco insisted, Singed performed the procedure to save her as he asked, though he reminded her of the pain she had to go through during the process rather than reassuring her, all while sadistically grinning as he injected chemicals into her.

Trivia

  • Up until Arcane, Singed's lore had depicted him as little more than a heartless and sadistic psycopath with no real human emotions. But Arcane has presented a different take on Singed, while still in general dismissive of the death and suffering his work causes, he has empathy and a justification of his actions as helping progress in the the long run. Furthermore, he is revealed to have had a daughter whose death he still mourns.
  • A picture of Singed's daughter is shown to heavily resemble a human Orianna Orianna, which has sparked fan theories that he was once her father, Corin Reveck. This was confirmed in Season 2.
