Development

- Senna is voiced by Cynthia Kaye McWilliams in both League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra as well as multiple cinematics.
- High Noon Senna is voiced by the same actress.
- 3 Senna, Sentinel of Light is voiced by Kimberly Brooks in Legends of Runeterra before Senna became a champion card.[1][2] Cynthia Kaye McWilliams represents an older Senna who has escaped Thresh's lantern, while Kimberly Brooks represents a younger Senna before she was imprisoned.[3]
- Senna started out as a background character to Lucian's story, being the main drive for his path of vengeance against Thresh and the Shadow Isles.
- It was one of the product goals from the beginning to introduce Senna for the 10 year anniversary of League.[4]
- Eoin Colgan's original Senna concepts were used as reference by Justin 'Earp' Albers when Riot had begun exploration on her.[5]
- Senna had no placeholder name in development due to already being established in lore.[6]
- Senna is a support marksman because Riot felt she should be a marksman since she had owned a gun just like Lucian, but she should also be able to lane with him.[7]
- Riot hosted a "Senna Dome" where multiple artists would contribute to brainstorming designs.[8]
- Several iterations of Senna's kit in development include:[9][10][11]
- A version where she was dual wielding pistols and had 500 range.
- A version of her ultimate that would allow her to blink after every attack.
- A version of her passive that granted her infinitely stacking percent maximum health damage.
- An iteration of Piercing Darkness that healed minions and turrets.
- Piercing Darkness is inspired by Lucian's Piercing Light, mirroring it's paradigm and functionality.
- Absolution is inspired by Thresh's Damnation, both granting infinitely scaling stats with one each of those stats usually being increased with growth, and having additional ratios on some of their abilities that scale with the amount of souls collected.
- Influences for Senna include Blessed Isles motifs, Lucian's clothing, Sentinels of Light aesthetics, sacred geometry shape-making, and modern athleisure styles.[12]
- Absolution was originally a 3 hit passive but was reduced to a 2 hit passive due to feeling too unreliable.[13]
- Senna's placeholder model in development was a recolored Ezreal.[14]
- Senna was given a cannon due to League previously lacking a railgun fantasy as well as to have a vastly different silhouette from Lucian.[15]
- A teaser for Senna would cover both Summoner's Rift fountains in The Black Mist at game start.
- The Senna Community Kit includes a model of the cannon depicted in Shadow's Embrace that has been slightly modified to be more wieldy (Notably changes to the stock).
- During Mordekaiser's development, a version of Indestructible involved him turning into an untargetable wraith. This idea seems to have been somewhat reused in Senna's Curse of the Black Mist.
- Senna's theme was composed by The Crystal Method who previously composed Lucian's.
Universe

- Senna's cannon has two barrels which can fire either darkness or light. The light barrel can heal.[16]
- Senna was born on an island close to Demacia, but is not Demacian herself.[18]
- Senna and Lucian aren't affiliated with any region due to the Sentinels of Light being independent and agnostic towards any other region.[19]
- Senna can manipulate the Black Mist due to her curse, and manifests herself into what she looked like when she was human.[20]
- Her "curse" is due to her connection with Isolde, Viego's wife. The Black Mist is drawn to Senna, as Viego seeks to take Isolde back.
- One of Lucian's guns belonged to her before she was imprisoned by Thresh.

- Senna is one of 15 champions that have an ability that infinitely stacks an effect: Aurelion Sol, Bard, Bel'Veth, Cho'Gath, Draven, Kindred, Nasus, Senna, Shyvana, Sion, Smolder, Swain, Sylas, Thresh, and Veigar.
- In Senna's case, Absolution infinitely stacks her attack damage, range, lifesteal and the shield of Dawning Shadow.

- Senna is an example of a champion that was present in the lore before they were developed into a playable champion: appearing as a recurring character in Lucian's story since his release. Another example is Lissandra, who appeared in the Journal of Justice.
- Senna is the second champion that cannot increase a stat through leveling up, after Thresh and his armor. In her case, it is attack damage because of her passive, Absolution.
- If Senna and Thresh are played on opposing teams, a quest will trigger. This in-game quest consists in one killing the other to earn the opposing champion's stack of souls.[21]
- Senna has among one of the longest attack frames in game, at 0.5 seconds, while most champions are between 0.2 and 0.3 seconds.[22]
- Her name comes from Arabic سناء Sanāʼ "brightness, sublimity",[23] from root s-n-y (> Sin "moon" & seneh "burning bush").[24]
