There are several types of nobility on Runeterra: Traditional nobility from
Demacia,
Noxus and
Shurima; Ruling Castes of
Ixtal; Merchant Clans of
Piltover; Chem-Barons of
Zaun.
Demacia
- Main article: Nobility/Demacia
As a monarchy, Demacia is governed by various royal families, regulating the nation primarily as members of the Demacian Council. While many of the Noble Houses have ruled for generations, they are treated as any other citizen under the nation's strict laws and are not exempt from them. They may even be treated more harshly under the law as they are meant to serve as shining examples of how Demacian citizens should conduct themselves, publicly and privately.
Ixtal
- Main article: Nobility/Ixtal
The Mage Autocracy functions on a caste system where every person has a set role in society. An individual can rarely change their caste and are often within a caste for their entire life. The Social Hierarchy within a caste is based on the length of time spent in study, furthering their progression toward ultimate mastery.
Noxus
- Main article: Nobility/Noxus
These noble houses have existed since the first walls were raised around Noxus, and lead lives of privilege as they play a key role in politics. They believed that their proud heritage was the nation's greatest strength, but many hungered for greater influence, plotting against Boram Darkwill with a secret cabal united by nothing more than the symbol of a black rose. Old noble families still wield considerable power at the heart of the empire.
Piltover
- Main article: Nobility/Piltover
The mercantile clans of Piltover each have their own unique sigil to identify their homes, workshops, shipments, warehouses, inventions, brands and places of business. Each sigil bears many meanings and interpretations; some obvious, some less so.
Shurima
- Main article: Nobility/Shurima
Shurima currently has no centralized government; most regions are controlled by local leaders due to the isolation of many settlements. While the Shuriman Empire reigned, all regions were governed by feudal lords who answered to the Emperor of Shurima in the capital.
Zaun
- Main article: Nobility/Zaun
A loose alliance of convenience exists between Zaun's powerful Chem-Barons, powerful individuals who each control an area of the city. They are factory owners, business owners, landlords, resource owners, and/or mob/gang bosses having large amounts of money, man power and influence. It is they and their thugs who keep Zaun from descending into chaos.
