- Leona's Japanese voice actor is Ayako Kawasumi.[1]
- Leona was one of the early champions that do not have a theme song. Eclipse Leona 's theme was used in lieu of original Leona's theme.
- The vocal of the theme is sung by Lisa 'Saiyaka' Thorn.
- During development she was called Arene.[2]
- Leona's appearance and personality are heavily inspired by Michael 'IronStylus' Maurino's wife while her face was drawn with Natalie Portman as reference.[3]
- Leona was developed in total isolation in the days where there was no heavy character development. She wasn’t anything until Diana was created as her foil. To further her story, the idea that they were both homosexual was come up with.[4]

- Leona has been confirmed to be a lesbian after years of speculation, debuting her kissing a woman in Rise with Me[5], and later specifically her being a lesbian in an announcement for 2023 Pride Month, where she and Diana are depicted with the Lesbian Flag.

- Leona's dance resembles 'Shield Break' by the Force Shielder from Cabal Online.
- Sunlight and Illumination have nearly identical functionality, with the only differences being who (Leona's allies and Lux herself, respectively) and what (any allied damage source and Lux's basic attacks, respectively) triggers them.
- Sunlight deals 1 less damage to champions wearing sunglasses (whether by default like Vayne or through a skin like Riot Graves or Surfer Singed).
- Leona is the modern feminine derivative of Ancient Greek name Leon Λέων "lion", from an Afro-Asiatic source[6] (cf. Proto-Semitic *labuʔ ~ *labiʔ);[7]
- Her title 'the Radiant Dawn' might be referencing Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn & Hausos, the PIE Dawn Goddess.
- A functional real-life replica of Leona's Zenith Blade was crafted in an episode of YouTube series Man At Arms: Reforged.
