Landmarks are a type of card in Legends of Runeterra that take up a space on the board, like units, but can't interact with the same mechanics as units - for example they can't Attack or Block (See also: Immobile), don't have Health or Power, and can't strike.
Text that can affect Landmarks will explicitly refer to them.
Mechanics[]
A player can own up to 3 duplicates of a landmark in their starting deck. And, unlike champion cards, a player can play multiple copies of a landmark from their hand.
Region-base[]
Although landmark appears in every region, there are a lot more landmarks in Targon and Shurima.
- Freljord
- Although Freljord doesnt have many landmarks, there is a lot of cards support for the 1 Frozen Thrall.
- These units help generate Thralls, or help them trigger their Cooldown effect sooner.
- 6 The Howling Abyss provides random powerful champion when player stalls the game.
- 3 The Scargrounds is a powerful card in 4Braum-5Vladimir deck.
- Although Freljord doesnt have many landmarks, there is a lot of cards support for the 1 Frozen Thrall.
- Targon
- Before the expansion XXX, Targon landmarks are high-cost cards that either provide alternative win conditions, or bring enough power for you to win the game.
- 2 Star Spring provide a win condition for healing archetype. The most dominance example of this deck is 3Soraka and 4Tahm Kench.
- 6 Targon's Peak allows deck around high cost cards to work. Beside the Targon Peak, the deck require some stallings effect from Nexus healing cards, or mana ramping cards; and also cards that draw win conditions like 3 Divergent Paths or 2 Entreat.
- Before the expansion XXX, Targon landmarks are high-cost cards that either provide alternative win conditions, or bring enough power for you to win the game.
- Shurima
- Cooldown mechanic allow landmarks to be summoned and destroyed by themselves, leaving spaces for more landmarks and units. This keyword interacts with the Advance keyword.
- Players can include a lot more landmarks now without worrying lack of units.
- Although landmarks like 2 Emperor's Dais or 5 Sandswept Tomb doesn't countdown, its ability to summon Ephemeral on attack give the landmark some temporary unit presence.
- Cards like 4 Salt Spire or 6 Risen Altar summon units when they off cooldown.
- Multiple cards can summon 2 Roiling Sands that are also easy to be destroyed.
- Shurima provide the most support to Landmark, including generate cards, duplicate, double effect, and even destroy cards.
- 1 Buried Sun Disc is a card that work with the Shurima region the most, with requirement, how to advance and its reward are all related to Shurima.
- Bandle City
- Bandle City package for Landmarks are easy to destroy landmarks, spells that destroy Landmarks, and cards that grow in power from it.
Expansion-base[]
- Expansion Monuments of Power introduces Landmark to the game. These landmark give some persistent effect to the board. However, due to Landmark taking space on the board, players don't include many Landmarks in their starting decks.
- Expansion Empires of the Ascended introduces many Landmark mechanics. But most importantly, Landmarks taking less space by be able to destroy itself.
- Countdown allows landmark to be destroyed after a certain number of rounds. This keyword interacts with the Advance keyword.
- Multiple landmarks can summon units, either by attacking (2 Emperor's Dais, 5 Sandswept Tomb), or by Cooldown mechanic (1 Frozen Thrall, 4 Salt Spire.
- Landmarks are also being used as a way to protect, destroy units, like 2 Stasis Statue and 0 Frozen Tomb.
- Expansion Beyond the Bandlewood introduces 3Ziggs and 4Xerath that focus on destroying Landmarks. They give Landmark an offensive power, and introduce some Landmarks that provide power on being destroyed.
- Expansion Worldwalker introduces Tellstone cards. Consider 4 out of 9 cards provide options to interact with landmarks, players have more options to interrupt with opponent landmark gameplay.
