If Gangplank successfully hits a target with Trial by Fire, he gains Movement speed icon.png 15% − 30% (based on level) bonus movement speed for 2 seconds. Every time a Powder Keg Powder Keg explodes, the Cooldown reduction icon.png cooldown for Trial by Fire resets and Gangplank gains its bonus movement speed.

Trial by Fire cannot be applied with Parrrley Parrrley nor Powder Keg Powder Keg.

  • Unlike most damage over time debuffs, reapplying Trial by Fire before a previous application has run out will stack the full damage, instead of just refreshing the duration.

Powder Keg

Gangplank Powder Keg.png

Active: Gangplank consumes a charge to place a powder keg at the target location that lasts for 25 seconds and will connect to other kegs with overlapping connection radius with a trail of black powder. The keg starts with 3 health and loses 1 every 2 / 1 / 0.5 (based on level) seconds until it is left with 1 health. He periodically stocks up on a new keg up to a maximum amount.

Maximum charges:
3 / 3 / 4 / 4 / 5

Kegs can be basic attacked by enemies or Gangplank (including his Parrrley Parrrley), dealing 1 damage to it. When an enemy destroys it, it is safely defused. When Gangplank destroys it, it explodes and also triggers a chain reaction that explodes other nearby connected kegs with a 0.33 seconds-delay between explosions. The explosions also grant Sight icon.png sight in their radiuses for 2 seconds.

Enemies caught in an explosion are Slow icon.png slowed for 2 seconds and are dealt the triggering attack's damage, dealing bonus physical damage against Champion icon.png champions. Each enemy can only be damaged once per chain and the damage dealt ignores 40% of the their Armor penetration icon.png armor.

If the triggering attack was a Critical strike icon.png critical strike, the explosions deal 25% more damage on top of the critical damage.

  • The triggering attack's damage can include Parrrley Parrrley's base damage and Sheen item.png Spellblade.
  • When triggered with critical strike, Spellblade and the bonus damage to champions are added after the calculations, meaning that these effects are not increased by 25%.
  • The total damage can be easily calculated with this formula:
    {aDMG * [1.75 (+ 0.35 + 0.35)] * 1.25} + sDMG + cDMG
    Where:
    • aDMG = Triggering attack's damage
    • sDMG = Spellblade's damage
    • cDMG = Bonus damage to champions
  • Kegs have special interactions with Sheen item.png Spellblade:
    • If the keg destroying attack was empowered with Spellblade, its damage will be added to the explosions' damage.
    • If the keg was not destroyed, it will consume the effect and the keg will store the damage it would have dealt. If the storing keg is the initial detonation of the chain, it will add its damage to the explosions' damage as it was triggered with Spellblade.
    • If the storing keg was attacked with a new instance of Spellblade, it will override the previously stored damage (if different).
    • Damage can only be stored if Spellblade was consumed by 'Gangplank.
    • The stored damage is static and will not change if Gangplank's base attack damage or ability power (see below) changes.
  • Specific Sheen item.png Spellblade item interactions:
    • Trinity Force Trinity Force: Attacking kegs or dealing damage to champions with the explosion does not increase the base attack damage.
    • Divine Sunderer Divine Sunderer: Explosions always apply the minimum damage of this item and does not apply the heal.
    • Lich Bane Lich Bane: The magic damage will be added to the explosions' damage, but will be dealt as physical damage.
    • Essence Reaver Essence Reaver: Consuming the effect on kegs will restore mana. Explosions does not trigger this.
  • Placed barrels do not grant Sight icon.png vision until they explode, but they are revealed to Gangplank.
    • If Gangplank loses allied vision, for instance due to Nearsight icon.png nearsight, he will also lose vision on his barrels temporarily.
    • Barrels prematurely grant Sight icon.png sight of their explosion radius (including across terrain and into bushes) if Parrrley Parrrley or a lit fuse is travelling towards them.
      • This area reveal happens even if Parrrley Parrrley is not going to make it explode.
  • An exploding Powder Keg will splash Parrrley's Parrrley's bonus damage, and will also be modified if the attack Critical strike icon.png critically strikes.
  • Attacks against Powder Kegs will apply on-hit effects (such as Tiamat's Tiamat's Cleave), but Wit's End item.png proc damage against the barrel itself is reduced to 0.
    • Damage from on-hit effects will not increase the damage of the explosion.
    • Sheen item.png Spellblade is a special-cased exception.
  • Dead Man's Plate's Dead Man's Plate's Crushing Blow will not trigger from Powder Kegs destroyed from Gangplank, even with Parrrley Parrrley.
  • Gangplank stocks Powder Kegs even if the ability hasn't been learned yet.
    • This is due to the recharge rate at level 1 being set the same as level 0.
    • While at maximum charges, ranking up the ability to rank 3 or 5 grants the remaining charge immediately regardless of the recharge timer.

  • Keg deterioration speeds up at level 19 to every 0.264 seconds, and at level 25 to every 0.132 seconds.
  • Because of they way kegs splash the damage they receive, and lit powder trails dealing the damage from the previous explosion on Gangplank's account, each explosion in a chain factors in the mode-specific balance modifier to Gangplank's damage dealt again.
    • As the balance modifier is increasing his damage, this rewards experimenting with unusually long explosion chains.

Active: Gangplank shoots a flare into the air, signaling his ship off-shore to fire upon the target location for 8 seconds, calling down 12 waves of cannonballs in clusters of 3 every 2 seconds, and granting Sight icon.png sight of the area for the duration. Each wave deals magic damage to all enemies within the area and Slow icon.png slows them by 30% for 0.5 seconds.

Fire in the Hole

Gangplank can attack a Powder Keg with basic attacks and Parrrley Parrrley. If he destroys it, the keg no longer grants kill gold but instead explodes, inflicting the triggering strike upon all nearby enemies, ignoring 40% of their armor, Slow icon.png slowing them by 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% for 2 seconds, dealing 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 / 180 bonus physical damage to enemy champions and applying spell effects as Katarina Death Lotus.png area damage. Magic damage effects are not applied. If Gangplank destroys a Powder Keg with Parrrley Parrrley then every enemy killed by the Powder Keg will also be plundered and grants him Silver Serpents Silver Serpents as if he had killed them with the initial ability.

Powder Trail

Powder Kegs connect to each other when nearby, and explode when a Powder Keg they are connected to is detonated, though they do not affect enemies hit by one of the previous explosions.

The damage benefits from 60% armor penetration and champions take bonus damage. If detonated by Parrrley Parrrley, Gangplank will plunder from all enemies slain. The explosion sets off a chain reaction that explodes other nearby kegs - but the damage does not overlap. Enemies can also attack the kegs to safely destroy them (worth gold).
    • No cost.
  • Cannon Barrage Cannon Barrage (R)
    • Now fires clusters of 3 waves every 2 seconds, for a total of 12 waves over an 8-second period (changed from 7 waves over 7 seconds).
    • Now Slow icon.png slows by 30% for 0.5 second (1 second per cluster) instead of 25% for the duration.
    • Damage per wave changed to 50 / 70 / 90 (+10% AP) from 75 / 120 / 165 (+20% AP).
    • Cooldown increased to 140 / 130 / 120 from 125.
  • Gangplank has access to three unique items that can be purchased with Silver Serpents, a unique currency.
    • Death's Daughter: An initial, mega-cannonball precedes the barrage, dealing 「 a cluster worth 」「 150 / 210 / 270 (+30%AP) 」 of true damageand Slow icon.png slowing enemies by 60% for 1.5 seconds.
    • Raise Morale: Allies within the area gain 60% bonus movement speed for 2 seconds.
    • Fire at Will: Launches 6 additional waves.
