Wild Rift icon League of Legends: Wild Rift (also called Wild Rift or WR) is an multiplayer online battle arena game currently available for iOS and Android phones with console release details TBD. The game was developed by Riot Games logo icon Riot Games, a subsidiary of Tencent. and is an abridged version of its PC counterpart, League of Legends, with its own champion roster and content releases.


The game was first announced by Riot Games, and entered its first closed alpha on October 15th 2019, coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of League of Legends icon League of Legends.[2][3]

From June 6 – June 27, 2020, the game was released to select players in an alpha test. On September 16, 2020, the game began releasing in closed beta to select regions. On October 27, 2020, the game transitioned to open beta. Throughout the beta phase, the game rolled out to more regions at later dates.

Summoners Rift[]

The map is an abridged Summoner's Rift which has been reduced in features and territory, but still supports three lanes and five players per side.

The map is an abridged Howling Abyss which has more or less the same amount of features though with reduced territory.

General Differences[]

Wild Rift has noticeable differences compared to its LoL counterpart. Champions, runes, summoner spells, items, monsters, and maps have been tweaked or completely altered for this new take on the classic MOBA game.

Camera[]

The camera is oriented with the Allied Base at the bottom left of the map. The paths are marked to indicate the objective near that path, but red side will have additional indicators for the intended roles.

Controls[]

Players control their champion with a twin-stick control scheme, using one to move and one to aim their basic attack targeting as well as their ability.

  • Wild Rift is Riot Games' take on the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre for mobile and consoles.
    • This game is primarily made for the Chinese mobile market as its extensively supported in that region compared to international releases of the game.
    • This game was heavily inspired by classic League of Legends released on PC and Mac.
  • The game was visually remastered from scratch, giving skins and champions a different appearance from League of Legends on PC.
