• Ekko is voiced by Antony Del Rio in League of Legends.
  • Ekko is voiced by Reed Shannon in Legends of Runeterra, CONV/RGENCE, True Genius, and Arcane.
    • Future Ekko is voiced by Bumper Robinson in CONV/RGENCE.
    • Young Ekko is voiced by Miles Brown in Arcane.
  • True Damage Ekko is voiced by Umar 'Thutmose' Ibrahim.
    • The rappers who voice True Damage Ekko in GIANTS are Umar 'Thutmose' Ibrahim in the first rap and Duckwrth in the second.
  • Ekko's Japanese voice actor is Tasuku Hatanaka.
• His title references The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
• His concept started being worked on in 2013 with his code name being “punk genius”.
• Ekko's concept simplifies to 'Time Assassin with Rewind'. His design was inspired by Zilean's.
  • His production names were 'Time Slugger' and 'Time Assassin'. In-game he was called 'Punk Genius'.
  • Production started after Kalista's release, his concept and assets took eight months from start to finish.
• Examples of Chronobreak iterations:
  • Ekko globally saves everyone's state (mana, health, cooldowns, position, etc.) After 8 seconds anyone who is not dead is returned to the saved state (can't rewind death). This was scrapped because it promoted uncalculated engagements and was rather disruptive.
  • Ekko returns himself and a targeted enemy champion to wherever they were 4 seconds ago. This was scrapped because it was overpowered.
• Ekko's release was leaked both by datamining and by way of the 4chan imageboard.
• The Piltovan killer from Chronobreak was inspired by the 1931 German movie M.

Universe

XII on Ekko's 'bat'

• His canon appearances in chronological order: Enemy, Arcane, True Genius, Lullaby, Chronobreak, Seconds, A Perfect Life, CONV/RGENCE, The Unexpected Spark.
• During his release, it was stated that Ekko was a 16-17-year-old teenager.
• Like Jinx and Vi, 'Ekko' is not his actual name but rather what his friends call him.
• Ekko is basically a gifted, unrefined genius that tends to take on more than he can initially handle. He managed to create the Zero-Drive and the Timewinder simply through trial and error, and as a result splits the timeline to fuel his perfectionism
• Ekko mainly uses the Z-Drive to undo his mistakes and find key points to exploit, such as taking down a Vigilnaut (the techmaturgically augmented goon he fought in Seconds).
• Despite being able to undo physical effects on his body, Ekko retains some residual effects over the rewind, including physical pain and mental fatigue. His cognitive age does not change over the course of rewinding.
• Ekko's facepaint and Zero-Drive are both shaped after an hourglass, an expression of his personality as well as the symbol he adopted for himself.
  • He displays the same Zaunite street fashion Jinx and Vi do (with Ekko's neckpiece being identical to the hextech bolts on her gauntlets)
• Ekko's 'bat' is a clock second-hand he stole from a Piltover clocktower (as evidenced by the Roman 'XII' at its base)
• Ekko believes in and cares for Zaun and its future despite not fully understanding the bigger picture.
• As evidenced by his joke, the Zero-Drive sometimes functions unexpectedly.
  • It being the product of makeshift hextech powered by a shattered crystal of undocumented properties might have something to do with it.
    • The shattered crystal is implied to be part of the one that Viktor and Jayce fought over in their biographies.
    • And that also implies the current Zero-Drive isn't the first of many broken before.
  • As evidenced in CONV/RGENCE, the Zero-Drive can create time rifts capable of tearing different timelines even in different universes.
• The Timewinder is powered by the Zero-Drive.
  • Ekko had at first another function for it in mind (likely a smoke/flash grenade) but several successive malfunctions prompted its current incarnation.
• Using the Zero-Drive, Ekko is able to create afterimages of himself.
  • While in-game, an afterimage can be seen throwing his Zero-Drive to activate Parallel Convergence, in The Climb and Ekko's Arrival the device thrown is shown to be an unique one also shaped like a hourglass.
    • This device temporarly stops the flow of time in an area area.
  • In the non-canon The Path of Champions Adventure, one of Ekko's afterimage named Ozzi starts acting on its own and desires to not be reset and remain as an individual. It's unknown if afterimages from  Runeterra Prime are also capable of this.
• Zilean and Bard may be concerned by Ekko fracturing the timeline.

Arcane

• Ekko is estimated to be 12-13 years old in the first act of the series and is estimated to be 19-20 years old in the second and third act.

League of Legends

Gameplay

• The name Ekko is a play on the English word echo.
  • Besides the proverbial-and-literal 'Ekkos of the past' his name, having two Ks (KK) references the Rewind symbol ⏪.
  • His name could also be a reference to John 'Mikky Ekko' Stephen Sudduth and his first album 'Time' although this has never been confirmed.

Ekko, the Boy Who Shattered Time

• ▶️  "I'm no angel." and ▶️  "Yep, put an angel on the job. I could use a break." might be referencing Ekko's voice actor Antony Del Rio also voicing both Pit and Dark Pit in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
• ▶️  "Never go full robot." is a play on a quote from Tropic Thunder ("You never go full retard.").
• ▶️  "I'll never be like this guy." applies to both Jayce (the egotistical posterboy for the stuck-up Pilties) and Viktor (the amoral cyborg being part of Zaun's ethical bankruptcy).
• ▶️  "I've seen your future, and it's got broken bones." was probably inspired by Zilean's ▶️  "I've seen your death, it was painful..." considering their time-theme.
• ▶️  "Don't blink." and ▶️  "Reversing polarity!" might be quoting Doctor Who.
• ▶️  " You give Zaun a bad name." might be referencing You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi.
• ▶️  "I'm old enough to buy this." jokingly alludes to minors being prohibited from purchasing spirits.
• ▶️  "Tomorrow's the last of my worries" is a jab at the Defender of Tomorrow.
• Ekko shares quotes with:

    • These lines might be deliberate copies of Sivir's (as his voice-over released well after hers), since both abilities feature a returning weapon.

True Damage Ekko

• ▶️  "Yo! I will end your whole career!" is a reference to The Rap Battle from YouTube user SUPAHOTFIRE DESHAWN.
• ▶️  "Move aside, Akali, I'm the realest in the game now." references her lyrics in POP/STARS.
• ▶️  "Sit down." is likely referencing HUMBLE. by Kendrick Lamar.
  • He also shares this quote with Dunkmaster Darius ▶️  
• In the Latin America localization, there is a special interaction as "¡Si yo grito Ligo, y tu gritas...! Ugh, olvidenlo." ('If I yell League, and you yell...! Ugh, nevermind.'), referring to the infamous presentation of the ceremony at the LLA 2019 Opening Playoffs finale by a local rapper who was not only dreadful, but also suffered technical problems and was humiliated by an apathetic audience displeased by the impromptu performance.

  • His bat resembles the titular weapon from Transistor.
    • Both games were made by Supergiant Games.
• He might have been inspired by the Scout from Team Fortress 2.
• The Slums of Zaun and his afterimage can be seen in the background.
  • The writing behind Ekko resembles Alienese from Futurama.
