Capsule is a type of reward in Legends of Runeterra. They can be obtained by completing Prologue and Regional milestones as well as Expeditions. High-tier Chests also contain Capsules while low-tier Chests have less content than a single Capsule.

Capsules earned through completing Regional milestones may contain cards only from the respective Region (Wildcards from these Capsules can still be traded for a card from any Region).

Types[]

Tier Content
Common[1] Four LoR Common icon common cards and a LoR Rare icon rare card
Vault[2] Two LoR Common icon common cards and three LoR Rare icon rare cards
Epic Two LoR Common icon common cards, two LoR Rare icon rare cards and an LoR Epic icon epic card
Champion Three LoR Rare icon rare cards, an LoR Epic icon epic card and a LoR Champion icon champion card
Wild Four LoR Common Wildcard icon common wildcards and a LoR Rare Wildcard icon rare wildcard.

Upgrades[]

Upon opening a capsule, certain components have a small chance to upgrade, usually increasing the tier of the capsule, card, or chest by one (unless otherwise specified). The probability of receiving an upgrade for each component is as follows[3]:

Component Chance
Capsule > Wild Capsule 5%
Capsule > Epic Capsule* 10%
Epic Capsule > Champion Capsule 10%
Card > Wildcard 10%
Champion card > Wildcard 5%
Card > Next tier card 10%
Wildcard > Next tier wildcard 10%

Note that the above upgrades have a chance to chain, ie. a card can tier up twice at a probability of (10% * 10% = 1%).

*Rare Capsules do not exist, so standard Capsules upgrade directly to Epic ones.

Duplicates[]

The maximum number of cards one can own for any specific card is 3 (since this is the maximum count in any deck). When a Capsule drops a card you own the maximum of, you instead receive shards based on the rarity of that card. This is similar to dusting in other card-collecting games such as Hearthstone, while preventing the player from losing content in order to try other cards. Shards are given for duplicate cards as follows[4]:

Rarity Extra Copy Value
Common 15 Shards
Rare 60 Shards
Epic* 250 Shards
Champion* 750 Shards

Epic and Champion cards, as denoted by the asterisk, have special rules for duplicate cards instead of converting to shards:

  • Regional Capsules/Chests will only reroll cards of these rarities into a card that you do not yet have the maximum of.
    • If you own all cards of that rarity in that region, you will instead receive a card from another region of the same rarity.
    • If you own all cards of that rarity in all regions (ie. all cards of that rarity), you will instead receive shards.
  • Non-regional Capsules/Chests (ie. those from Expeditions/Weekly Vaults) will reroll that card into a card you do not yet have the maximum of.
    • If you own all cards of that rarity, you will instead receive shards.
