I think she is not viable as APC - her CDs are long, her scaling is terrible. Even Soraka/Janna is a better APC.
Thats why she is a support. Dont try to force every champ in every role.
Some champions are not meant to be carry. Its simple as that.
rabadon = higher ap
malady = AS, ap, passive magic damage
nashar tooth = AP, AS, CD
rylai = suvival HP, AP, slow passive
PD = AS, MS, critical
beserker boot furor = AS, MS
rely pain ap, extremely great chaser, annoying running champ, higher survivality, higher attack speed and can interupt enemy champ(stun and knockup).
i just fight againts ADC champ like yi, xz, tryn, varus, draven 1v1 and win like pro.
also win againts tough champ like darius and garen in late game.
i also own mid againts diana, brand, fizz and orianna.
man this champ is fking OP and pain APC. -tested officially-
I play Nami everywhere. Jungle is by far her best role, but if you plan to lane with her, buy boots 3 pots to start, work on your Malady, then get Sheen, work on Nashor's after the Sheen then either get Sorc boots or start working on Rabadon's, while finishing the other then get Lich Bane and so you should have these items by this point....
Sorcerer's Boots, Malady, Nashor's Tooth, Lich Bane, Rabadon's Deathcap... the final item is really your choice, Guinsoo's Rageblade is good to pick up early if you're doing well, if not get Rylai's for extra slow or get Athene's if you are struggling with Mana, my advice if you are struggling early on go for the Chalice for that 1% missing early on.
Basically if you've ever tried Mage Fortune, it's the same build.... works wonders.
If you plan to jungle, build like you would for Diana, Spectral Wraith, Merc Treads, Nashor's, Warmogs/Rylai's, Rabadon's and final item whatever is necessary. I find Malady and Nashor's to be great combination no matter what type of Attack Speed AP build.
As for the Mage Fortune Build, I found it applied to many champs: Nami, Elise, Miss Fortune, Kha'Zix, Kog'Maw, Fizz.... I'm sure that any AP champ could utilize this, but only the ones with Steroids seem to benefit more. Thanks for checkin this out and btw haven't been Jungle Nami often but I am 4/2 in the jungle with her and climbing ;) Happy slaughtering on the Fields!
Nami is a strong AD only in lane.
At lvl 9 she deals a lot of damage. As support you cannot always be sure your will use E but you can make sure you do. Her mana management is fair. Having a similar CC support will allow for easy facerolling (1.5 + say leona 1.5 = 3 second death).
I have played her AD and even when having a strong laning she is weak transitioning. She cannot fight like a regular adc and is hard to peel for yourself due to cast time. Unless overly fed she will lose all 1v1 with virtually anything.
Janna laning is weaker. Both have low AS but Nami passive+slow allow her to land all hits, Janna is harder to use your shield effectively. Janna scales better with her strong mobility late game, Toronado cast is faster than bubble and Zephyr slow is more efficent. Both have strong CC but Janna is instacast. Tidal Wave is weak, deals 0 damage and super slow.
I'll have to disagree that AD Janna is better than AD Nami.
AD Janna's damage boost instantly goes away when the shield breaks, so if she is hit by even a bit of AoE she loses all her damage. You won't get much of the damage boost for for duelling either, since the enemy ADC will probably break it in one or two autoattacks. Furthermore, Janna loses out on some of her supporting ability when being forced to auto attack, as she cannot just stand there channeling heal as an adc.
AD Nami, by contrast, does not lose out on any of her built in supporting abilities when auto attacking herself (outside of AP/utility scalings). Her base stats are also much better than other ranged supports for auto attacking. Even though AD Nami's steroid is only three auto attacks, it is far more reliable than AD Janna's steroid as you can expect it always to behave in the same way.
AD Nami is strong against one opponent, in the teamfight game she mostly gets wrecked. Many other adc have dashes to easily dodge her stun, her heal does peanuts without any ad, and her ult is on a forever long CD. As the other posts said, with no ap her AA buff does not scale and the slow isn't strong enough, again especially against anyone with a gap close or MS steroid. It's not that you can't get some kills in lane with this build but eventually you won't provide very much in endgame TFs because your build doesn't synthesize with any of your moves besides a slow. Marksman with stronger base stats and ad scales and as steroids would out sustain you with some help from teammates easily. I saw this happen firsthand in TTL, nami would get maybe one kill but a superior meta would win out every time
i'm main nami for like 2 years , i do agree that she doesn't have much scaling , but if you have some skills like fast clicking and stuff , you can get many pentas , for example , you gotta learn about the champions that you are fighting against , knowing that you can pretty much 75,6% of the times predict what they are going to do and where they are going (works for me) , for example , yesterday there was a vayne and a blitzcrank @ bot lane , i was nami adc with a tresh , everytime blitz pulled me (when he managed to xD) i would stun vayne , heal myself and use the passive to run away , it's all about knowing you and your enemies , i got 18/2 and in the other i scored a penta with 22/3.
I don't find it too much fun to AD Nami. I did it sometimes to test but it wasn't all that great. However, for "break the meta" addicts it might be entertaining, though her kit doesn't help with her being AD at all. Ok you can land a bubble but what you'll do with your other abilities while you're AD? Heal for maybe 100 health or smth.
Anyway, I like to play around with her full AP. I never had the guts to play her midlane/toplane but I wanna do it sometime just for the fun of it. :p
