Development

- Aphelios was accidentally revealed in the champion select screen of Voyboy's Mordekaiser rework video.
- Aphelios is voiced by an unknown Riot Sound Designer for Voice Overs.[1]
- The poison only constricts and agonizes his throat, so while he cannot speak, Aphelios is still able to make basic grunts and gasping sounds in game.
- Alune is voiced by Tania Gunadi, who also voices her in Legends of Runeterra.[2]

- Aphelios started as a wizard with an arsenal of spells, but this gameplay wasn't unique compared to existing mages.[4]

- Severum is based on a waning moon because the crescent shape of the weapon mirrors the crescent shape of the waning moon.
Universe
Universe- Main article: Aphelios (Character)
- Aphelios is not born mute, he can speak when not under the influence of noctum essence. Unfortunately, he can only connect with Alune after drinking the noctum, rendering him mute.[13]
- Alune is not dead, she is just residing within the Spirit Realm.
- She is not a ghost, her ethereal appearance in the Physical Realm a "lunar projection" of her.
- Aphelios's weapons are made of moonsilver, the same material that Diana's blade is made out of, and moonstone, which is what Nami is currently looking for.[14]
- Moonsilver is a silver metal forged in moonlight and imbued with a small amount of the moon's magic.[15]
- Moonstone is material that broke off of the moon and, after falling onto Runeterra, has embedded itself into Mount Targon and retains its magical potency.[15]
- Alune spends most of her time in the spirit realm meditating and scrying the future.[7]
- Alune loves to explore and see beauty and wonder. She sees the world through the temple's projections and through the eyes of her brother.[7]

- His sister's name Alune is possibly based on Latin luna, which shares the same PIE root *lewk- as Lux and Lucian.[19]
- Aphelios and Alune are possibly inspired by the Sun and Moon twins from Indo-European mythology; albeit that both twins belong to the Lunari order.

Despite the comment being in response to a conversation about Wukong, the meme has been affiliated with Aphelios because the comment was made shortly after Aphelios's release, because Aphelios's kit was complex in both visual clarity and mechanics, and because Aphelios was extraordinarily strong during his release.
