Ability Haste (AH) is the statistic that represents cooldown reduction, particularly cooldown of champion abilities. It is distinct from other versions of haste such as summoner spell haste and item haste, which are not visibly tracked in game. This article will discuss all forms of haste for the topic of cooldown reduction.
Ability Haste can be granted by items, runes; it also stacks additively.
, andThe reduced cooldown is determined at the moment an ability is activated. Increasing or decreasing ability haste while the skill is on cooldown will not affect the cooldown.
The amount of Ability Haste a champion can have is capped at 500 AH, equal to reducing one's cooldowns by 83.3%. This value is well beyond what is normally possible to acquire in a game.
Types and Application
The type of haste affects various cooldowns:
- Ability haste: Champion ability cooldowns (e.g. ).
- Item haste: Item cooldowns (e.g. or ).
- Summoner spell haste: Summoner spell cooldowns (e.g. ).
Ability haste does not apply to the following:
- Static cooldowns (e.g. ).
- On-target Cooldowns (e.g. ), though there are exceptions.
- Interrupted Durations (e.g. ).
- Rune cooldowns.
Formula
The formula for an ability cooldown is:
Conceptually, every 1 AH equals 1% more ability casts, or 1% faster cooldown. The formula translates the stat into a multiplier for the base cooldown, such that 100% increase (or 1 extra cast) at 100 AH renders a x0.5 multiplier, or 50% of the cooldown.
Alternatively, cooldown reduction can be calculated with the formula:
