Stealth is the mechanic by which some units become invisible for a determined period of time. Stealth is divided into three categories: Ambush 2.png Camouflage (also known as Strategic stealth), Twilight Shroud.png Invisibility (also known as Tactical stealth) and 20px Stealthed traps.

Camouflage is a form of stealth that is activated preemptively in order to ambush an enemy or to bypass the enemy's vision.

  • Evelynn's Evelynn's Demon Shade Demon Shade, starting from level 6, allows her to permanently enter camouflage after being out-of-combat for 4 seconds.
  • Rengar's Rengar's Thrill of the Hunt Thrill of the Hunt enters camouflage for up to 12 / 16 / 20 seconds, gaining 40% bonus movement speed. Attacking or casting most spells breaks camouflage.
  • Twitch's Twitch's Ambush Ambush enters camouflage after 1 second for 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 / 14 seconds, gaining 10% bonus movement speed, increased to 30% while moving towards nearby enemy champions who cannot see him. Attacking or casting spells breaks camouflage.

Invisibility is a form of stealth that is activated while in-combat to grant a champion a reprieve, or the ability to reposition.
  • Invisible units can only be revealed by enemy turrets or True Sight icon.png true sight and will briefly shimmer whenever they take damage (e.g. if hit by a skill shot). A unit cannot shimmer more frequently than once per second, and shimmering doesn't make a unit targetable nor remove the stealth effect.
  • Effects that grant unit-vision (but not True Sight icon.png true sight) will still debuff invisible enemies, including visible over-head indicators, but will not grant unit-vision or targetability.
  • Oracle Alteration Oracle Alteration and Sweeping Lens Sweeping Lens will outline invisible units.
  • Akali's Akali's Twilight Shroud Twilight Shroud, while inside the smoke cover, Akali immediately gains invisibility and 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100% bonus movement speed. If Akali uses a basic attack or ability inside her smoke cover, she will reveal herself for 0.65 seconds.
  • Kha'Zix's Kha'Zix's Void Assault Void Assault enters invisibility for 1.5 seconds, gaining 40% bonus movement speed and ignoring unit collision for the duration. After 2 seconds of leaving stealth, and for the next 10 seconds, Void Assault can be cast a second time at no cost.
  • Shaco's Shaco's Deceive Deceive enters invisibility after 0.125 seconds for 1.5 / 2.25 / 3 / 3.75 / 4.5 seconds. Shaco remains Twilight Shroud.png invisible even while casting Hallucinate Hallucinate. Casting Jack in the Box Jack in the Box briefly reveals Shaco's position, but doesn't make him targetable.
  • Talon's Talon's Shadow Assault Shadow Assault enters invisibility for up to 2.5 seconds, gaining 40 / 55 / 70% bonus movement speed. Basic attacking or casting an ability breaks invisibility.
  • Teemo's Teemo's Guerrilla Warfare Guerrilla Warfare enters invisibility if he stands still for 1.5 seconds without acting or being acted upon. He will remain stealthed so long as he doesn't move, doesn't act, or is Airborne icon.png displaced. If within a brush brush, Teemo gains stealth after 0.75 seconds even while moving and may move freely within its boundaries without breaking stealth.
  • Vayne's Vayne's Final Hour Final Hour, while active, empowers Tumble Tumble to turn Vayne invisible for 1 second on cast. Basic attacking or casting an ability breaks invisibility.
  • Wukong's Wukong's Decoy Decoy enters invisibility for 1.5 seconds. Basic attacking or casting an ability breaks invisibility.

Stealthed traps

Stealthed traps have a unique form of stealth that cannot be seen except through Arcane Sweeper Arcane Sweeper, Control Wards Control Wards, Oracle Alteration Oracle Alteration, 20px Scryer's Bloom, Sweeping Lens Sweeping Lens or an enemy turret.
  • Shaco's Shaco's Jack in the Box Jack in the Box summons a box at the target location, which stealths after 2 seconds, lasting up to 60 (+ 5% AP) seconds
  • Jhin's Jhin's Captive Audience Captive Audience places a Lotus Trap at the target location that lasts for 2 minutes. The Lotus Trap blooms if an enemy walks over it,  revealing all enemies caught inside for 4 seconds.
  • Nidalee's Nidalee's Bushwhack Bushwhack lays a trap at the target location, which stealths and arms after a brief delay and lasting for up to 2 minutes. The next enemy who springs the trap takes magic damage over 4 seconds granting True Sight for the duration.
  • Teemo's Teemo's Noxious Trap Noxious Trap tosses a mushroom trap on the ground, which stealths and arms after 1 second, lasting up to 5 minutes. While armed, mushrooms grant Sight icon.png sight in a 212.5-range radius.

Vanish briefly removes a unit from the game, rendering them untargetable, invulnerable, and completely undetectable/invisible even when under Oracle Alteration Oracle Alteration or Sweeping Lens Sweeping Lens. Tethered abilities will persist Vanish depending on the refresh rate (i.e. how often the tether checks if the target is still present).

Invisibility detection

There are various ways for a champion to gain the ability to see stealth. A champion with this ability will see stealthed enemy units as partially translucent. When a revealed stealthed unit leaves the revealed area that unit does not experience a fade time; the unit immediately turns stealthed again. The following is a list of possible ways to detect stealthed champions:

  • Control Ward Control Ward - Gold.png 75
    • Consume: Places a visible 20px Control Ward at the target location (600 range), which grants vision over the surrounding area as well as:
  • Revealing and 20px disabling enemy wards
  • Revealing enemy 20px stealthed traps.
  • Revealing Ambush 2.png Camouflaged champions.
    • Limitations: Can only carry 3 Control Wards in inventory. Limit 1 Control Ward on the map per player.
    • Availability: Summoner's Rift
  • Oracle's Extract Oracle's Extract - Gold.png 300
    • Consume: Grants True Sight icon.png True Sight as well as the ability to detect hidden units within a 500-unit detection radius for 5 minutes. The detection will ignore terrain and brush.
  • True Sight icon.png True Sight will reveal both stealthed and invisible enemies.
  • Detection highlights units and traps as a red silhouette.
  • Oracle Alteration Oracle Alteration - Free
    • Active: Summons a 20px Sweeper Drone that escorts you for the next 10 seconds (76 - 60 (in base al livello) second cooldown). The drone has a 660 / 690 / 720 / 750-unit detection radius.
    • Limitations: Limited to 1 Trinket. Switching to a Totem-type Trinket will disable Trinket use for 120 seconds. Cannot be purchased until level 9.

    • Limitations: Limited to 1 Trinket. Trinkets cannot be used in the first 30 seconds of a game. Selling a Trinket will disable Trinket use for 120 seconds.
    • Availability: Summoner's Rift

Champion abilities

The following abilities can reveal stealthed units for a period of time:

Allied turrets have a "true sight" stealth detection range that will reveal any stealthed unit. This range is equal to the turret's attack range. Note that neither inhibitors nor nexuses possess this property.

Items breaking Invisibility

The following in-game elements will break Invisibility upon activation.

Items not breaking Invisibility

The following in-game elements will not break Invisibility upon activation.

Presence detection without reveal

All abilities that do not require single target to cast can affect stealthed champions (but will not reveal them).

Certain abilities can only be cast if an enemy is in range of the AoE casting circle - these abilities will light up and become available to use even if the only enemy in range is a stealthed enemy.

Skill shots

While skill shots that do damage and/or stun such as Ashe's Ashe's Enchanted Crystal Arrow Enchanted Crystal Arrow will still hit stealthed champions, they will still not be revealed. Note that the visible projectile will stop short of its trajectory and show visual and audio effects (e.g. Dr. Mundo's Dr. Mundo's Infected Cleaver Infected Cleaver will make a splatter and show a small eruption of blood upon impact) if a stealthed unit is hit, indicating the stealthed champion's presence but not revealing them. Here are some more ways to detect stealthed enemies since they'll function the same as if they are unseen in brush.

Forcing enemies out of stealth

Taunting a stealthed enemy will cause him to attack, automatically revealing him and forcing him out of stealth. This can work if you target a visible stealthed unit or if the enemy is currently entering into stealth. With AoE taunts you can force every stealthed champion in the area to attack, even if they are invisible. Note that Rammus' Rammus' Frenzying Taunt Frenzying Taunt can't be casted on stealth champions.

In the case of Teemo's Teemo's Guerrilla Warfare Guerrilla Warfare, direction targeted skills which can Airborne icon.png displace, Charm icon.png charm or Flee icon.png flee him will force him out of stealth.
